Witco Mid Century World Map

I've seen one of these before, thought it was cool when I saw it. I could have sworn it had an airplane at the end of the wire, on top of the globe, right by the round thingie... Maybe not?

Regardless, guess what? One is for sale on eBay.

But hold on to your hat, it's currently at $471 US!!

It's very cool. I'd put it here in the Space room, but gee... A little rich for my pocketbook. I bet it sells for twice this price!

Check it out, auction ends in two days... Click HERE. If you buy it, please let us know!!

Edit: SOLD for $898!!!

  3. That's weird, I was gonna say the same thing, even before I scrolled down! It is very cool, though.

  8. Gah, they're always so expensive! I dream of finding one in the back, dusty corner of a small town junk shop! (or maybe ten of them!)

  9. Oh to be filthy rich! haha I love these things but have never happened upon one a low price!

  10. Yeah that is amazing, but I agree with everyone else that it's far too expensive! Cool though! Emma x

  11. Yeah, I saw this too the other day on ebay. I NEED it! But, like everyone else, I'm too cheap. I know it's a lot of money, but it's like the Witco holy grail. Ever since I got Tiki Modern, I've searched ebay for Witco stuff, and these rarely come up. Someone will be very happy this evening.

  12. It's always been my belief, that things like bullet planters were forced up in value by featuring them in modern (today) 50's decorating books.

I mean, I didn't know a single person who had a bullet planter when I was a kid, so why are they so expensive now? They are not rare, and in fact they make reproductions of them.

Had to have been featured in a book or magazine, and by doing that, people just have to have them. I don't think of them as being "iconic" like starburst clocks.

Same as this item. Without being featured in a book, I bet virtually no one would be interested.

    My theory lol...

  13. My buddy got one of those from the sale after they closed Trader Vic's in San Francisco...go to my blog "British Invasion" and you can see it on the wall of his tiki bar. It's a stunning piece and I know he didn't spend that kind of cash on it!

  14. Fab but overpriced. But fab. That's the joy of vintage shopping in person, usually no one driving the price up.

  15. Very nice map although I can't help thinking like one of the commenters that it doesn't look like it's too difficult to make one of those. If only I could Lol

Just came across your wonderful blog (where was I all this time?!) I'm a fan of mid-century modern so I'll definitely sign up as a follower.

    Cheers!
