It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

Just a reminder, for my U.S. friends that this childhood classic comes on tonight, 8:00 p.m. (your time zone).

I remember looking forward to watching this every year. Mom used to let us go to our babysitters house to watch it... In color !!! Yes, we had a black and white TV when I was a kid. I think we had black and white TV until I was 14. Ha ha. We didn't get a push button phone or microwave or VCR until about a decade after every one else did. Dad was... Thrifty. Love ya, Dad!

Being the creative kid I was, I used to make drawings of this show I loved it so much. But anything Halloween related used to thrill me!

Seems to me I watched this full program on youtube last year, but they have been taking down a lot of shows and songs due to copyright issues. Bah. But it can be bought on DVD.

Did you watch this when you were a kid? And how many of you remember the big sponsor at the time was Dolly Madison?

Happy Thursday to all my good blog friends!

  2. I love this one and the Disney Halloween shows...especially the cartoon of Sleepy Hollow.

I have The Great Pumpkin on DVD. Me and little one are going to paint pumpkins and get MESSY and watch The Great Pumpkin...because what 3-year-old wouldn't enjoy that?!

We also have it on DVD---and my 3-year-old has been watching it all month long. I still haven't tired of it! We got our pumpkins carved last night and I'm trying to think of a last minute costume for myself---Would dressing as Adolf Hitler be in bad taste?

I don't think so, Utah Oilfield! But I have an open mind, not easily offended. I think it's great you share this with your 3 year old =)

  7. The Great Pumpkin! I used to watch this show every single year. Me and Snoopy and my mom would watch the show. I got my Snoopy doll at 3-years-old (and I still have him 32 years later!) and we watched all the Charlie Brown shows together for years. The last couple of years I've always missed the shows. Thank you so much for putting out the reminder that the show is on tonight. I'll try to catch it if I can.

What's this about Charlie Brown rapping? That's not the original show!

PS I played Linus in the stage production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown! back in high school (everyone but Charlie Brown was played by a girl LOL we couldn't get guys to try out!)

  8. I haven't seen the rapping Charlie Brown, ugh. How annoying. Peanuts is not something that needs to be "modernized" Bleh. I admit I am not faithful in watching this every year. I need to get it on DVD. My daughter loves Charlie Brown so we're going to stay up and watch it. :D I love how so many generations have great memories of watching the Charlie Brown specials!

  9. It's the commercial advertising for this show tonight. It shows a cartoon Charlie Brown trying to rap about the show being on tonight. And you know, they try to match the voice, but it's not the same. Do they have to use "rap" simply to appeal to kids these days? =(

Snoopy doll, how cute. Not sure why I didn't get any of the dolls or plush Snoopies when I was a kid. Oh yeah, I had to have toy horses lol...

  11. Thank god, I thought it was just my peabrain hallucinating that rapping Charlie Brown s**t. I'm pretty sure we had a color TV by the time this came out since I don't remember watching it in black and white. Howdy Doody, yes. Charlie Brown, no. Just doesn't seem right somehow . . . It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Grey. ;^P
